2021 Senior Spotlight: Our final Senior Spotlight for Thursday is Aysha Shantte Little. She is the daughter of Scott and Noelia Little. While attending Wapello, Aysha has participated in Football Cheerleading, Volleyball, Track and Student Council for one year, Art Club, FFA and FCCLA for two years, and four years in Basketball. After graduation Aysha plans to attend Iowa Wesleyan University to study Business Management. Aysha says the teacher who had the most impact on her was her 5th grade teacher, Mr.Gellinger. This was because “He taught me how to be a better person and to always believe in myself. He is a prime example of having a passion for teaching. I’ve never seen a teacher care so much about his students.” Her advice to underclassmen is “It’s okay to take a break and have fun from time to time, but always try to get your work done on time!”. Congratulations and best wishes to Aysha on her impending graduation.

2021 Senior Spotlight: Our Thursday Senior Spotlight begins with Cassandra Esparza. Cassie is the daughter of Amelio and Presiliano Esparza. While in high school, she had participated in Golf for one year, and been active in Art. Cassie’s plans after graduation are to enter the workforce. We asked the senior to name a staff member who had the greatest impact on her, and Cassie said this was Ms. (Aracely) Schlesing. This is because “She had always pushed me to get good grades and do well in class; she also helped me with anything that I needed.” We also asked what advice the seniors have for underclassmen, and Cassie said “Don’t skip class and get your work done in time.” Congratulations and best of luck in the future to Cassie!

2021 Senior Spotlight: Today’s second Senior Spotlight is Matthew Michael Peterson. He is the son of Mike and Molly Peterson. While in high school Matthew has been on Student Council for one year, Cross Country for three years, and Soccer, Band, Choir, Speech and Drama for four years. After graduation, Matthew plans to attend the University of Iowa to study Music Education. The teacher that has made the most impact on Matthew is Mr. Peck, because “[he] has been my mentor as well as my teacher ever since I moved to Wapello back in third grade. When I started drumming, since he also was a drummer, he was always willing to show me the “tricks of the trade” if I asked. That fostered my love of drumming right from the start. As the years have gone by, he became my coach as well as my music teacher and his mentoring only grew. I knew that in any situation Mr. Peck would be there for me if I needed him. Because of this, I am always willing to give 110% of my effort and be there for him. A good teacher is someone that can teach the material to students. A great teacher is someone who can teach the material to students, but also give them the one on one time to make sure they fully understand. Because Mr. Peck is determined to work with you to make you the best student you can be, he is the definition of a great teacher. He has inspired me to view music in a different way. Mr. Peck also nominated me to tour Europe with a music group, allowing me to sing in seven different countries.” Matthew’s advice for underclassmen is "Don't eat yellow snow”. Good luck Matthew to all you endeavor in the future!
