Today would have been our last day of school for students. Our 5th graders missed out on a couple of big events this year, the 5th grade track meet, and getting to run out of the building one last time as Graduates of Wapello Elementary. We will recognize our 5th grade graduates today, we send our congratulations and best wishes as you move to Junior High in the fall. Congratulations! #WeAreWapello #WapelloTribePride

May 28, 2020 Update:
Some updates on Prom and Graduation for everyone. Let's start with Prom. We are currently exploring every possibility to have a Promish type event on June 20. We're working on an appropriate location and format that will allow us to follow the Governor's guidelines while still allowing our kids to recapture this end-of-year experience. There will be more information coming on this as we are able to finalize more details.
Next, let's talk about Graduation. It looks as if we will be able to hold a Graduation ceremony on June 28 at 7:00 pm at the football field. Again, more details will be released as they are finalized. Since the event would be held outside, we are not limited as to the number of people who can attend, provided we maintain social distancing.
There's still a great deal of work to do in order to make both of these events happen. And, by now, we all realize that the best laid plans can be for nothing as the COVID-19 continues. But, as of now, both Prom and Graduation are a go.
Baseball and softball practice for HS begins on Monday. There are many rules that coaches need to follow. This is being used as a trial run by the state and its success or failure will play a role in what the fall will look like. Please be patient with everyone as we work to operate within these new rules being placed upon us.
Wash your hands.
Cover your cough.
Wash your hands.
Stay home if you are sick.
Wash your hands.
Stay six feet away from other people who don't live with you.
Wash your hands.

May 27, 2020 Update
Happy cloudy Wednesday afternoon!
We are working on developing a survey for parents to get some ideas about what worked well this spring for distance learning and what didn't work so well. Many factors are outside of our control, but as we plan for next year, this information will be very helpful.
There are many, many sites out there are that claiming to be the official regulations that must happen in order for schools to reopen. I cannot stress enough that no one knows, at this point, what the fall will look like. Schools are making plans for many different contingencies, but there are no hard and fast rules that have been established for Iowa schools to reopen. Also, remember that schools are controlled by state governments. Any requirements will come from Des Moines.
A note on Junior High baseball. The Department of Education decided that high school baseball/softball could take place, but that JH baseball/softball could not. If that seems a little odd to you, there's a good reason for that. Youth leagues can happen. Traveling teams can happen. High School games can happen. JH is the only sector that does not have permission to play. This is a state-level decision and not one made by individual school districts.
The Elementary Food Pantry will be open Thursday, May 28th from 2:00 - 4:30. Please pull around the back of the building. We have a few new items we will be giving out tomorrow: milk, eggs, fajita chicken, popcorn chicken, oranges, radishes and sliced peppers as well as other regular items.
