Today's first Senior Shoutout goes to Eryka Dickey. Eryka is the daughter of Gary and Michelle Dickey. While in high school Eryka has participated in Softball and NHS for two years, while spending all four years in Cross-Country, Basketball, Track, Band, and Student Council (class officer). Eryka's future plans include attending the University of Iowa to study Pharmacy. As we did before, we asked the Senior to name a teacher/staff member who had an impact on their lives while in school. Eryka named Mr. Brandon Brown for this because, "[he] has been very influential in my life through academics and sports. He helped me learn a lot about history by providing an opportunity for me to experience the holocaust in person. He traveled with me and my classmates to Europe and gave us an experience that left a life lasting impression. Mr. Brown also had a major impact on my senior basketball season. His positive attitude and encouragement gave me the confidence I needed to reach many goals throughout the season. He built a great relationship with me and helped me through many challenges during the season as well. I am appreciative of the many ways he influenced my life in high school." When asked her advice for underclassmen, Eryka said "Don’t take a single day of high school for granted. Make the best of everyday with your friends and classmates because you never know when it maybe your last." Congratulations and best wishes to Eryka as she graduates from WHS with the class of 2020. #WeAreWapello #WapelloTribePride #classof2020

April 23, 2020 Update: Happy Thursday, everyone! Teachers are going to be calling students and their families in the near future. In fact, some of these calls probably started today. The goal is to keep in contact with students and find out how we can better meet educational needs. If your family hasn't been contacted, you will be in the near future. We've noticed an increase in Zoom meeting attendance today. This is a great thing to see and this trend needs to continue. Governor Reynolds closed school buildings. She did not close school. Today's reminder will be presented to you today in Pig Latin. Good morning to all! The WCSD teachers are going to begin making phone calls to all of our students over the course of the next few days. We want to check in with our kids and let you know we are thinking of you all. We also have some questions that the Iowa Department of Education, as well as our own technology directors are seeking answers to concerning student learning during this time of quarantine. Some questions may require parental help to answer. Please know, our ultimate goal is to find ways to better serve our students during this time. We are looking forward to speaking with our students. We miss you all greatly! Parents, as always, if you have questions concerning the phone calls and/or their purpose, please feel free to contact the central office. #wearewapello #wapellotribepride

Between meetings, zoom sessions, and the craziness that we are now all a part of, we failed to recognize our outstanding Administrative Professionals yesterday. These ladies are instrumental in making sure our buildings operate on a daily basis. Without their hard work and dedication, we would be at a loss. Thank you to Rae, Phyllis, and Kenna for all that you do on a daily basis for the students and staff at the Wapello Community School District! Please help us to thank these three amazing Administrative Professionals that the district is lucky to have! #WeAreWapello #WapelloTribePride

Happy Earth day everyone! This week at the secondary we would have celebrated with hometown day. Even though we aren’t together on this day you can still reach out and help. I challenge you to practice your social distancing and reach out to help someone in your community in need. Maybe you have a neighbor that needs some raking done, or some planting to do. Can you help at a safe distance? #wearewapello #wapellotribepride
