April 23, 2020 Update: Happy Thursday, everyone! Teachers are going to be calling students and their families in the near future. In fact, some of these calls probably started today. The goal is to keep in contact with students and find out how we can better meet educational needs. If your family hasn't been contacted, you will be in the near future. We've noticed an increase in Zoom meeting attendance today. This is a great thing to see and this trend needs to continue. Governor Reynolds closed school buildings. She did not close school. Today's reminder will be presented to you today in Pig Latin. Good morning to all! The WCSD teachers are going to begin making phone calls to all of our students over the course of the next few days. We want to check in with our kids and let you know we are thinking of you all. We also have some questions that the Iowa Department of Education, as well as our own technology directors are seeking answers to concerning student learning during this time of quarantine. Some questions may require parental help to answer. Please know, our ultimate goal is to find ways to better serve our students during this time. We are looking forward to speaking with our students. We miss you all greatly! Parents, as always, if you have questions concerning the phone calls and/or their purpose, please feel free to contact the central office. #wearewapello #wapellotribepride

Between meetings, zoom sessions, and the craziness that we are now all a part of, we failed to recognize our outstanding Administrative Professionals yesterday. These ladies are instrumental in making sure our buildings operate on a daily basis. Without their hard work and dedication, we would be at a loss. Thank you to Rae, Phyllis, and Kenna for all that you do on a daily basis for the students and staff at the Wapello Community School District! Please help us to thank these three amazing Administrative Professionals that the district is lucky to have! #WeAreWapello #WapelloTribePride

Our second Senior Shoutout is to Daniel Hemphill. Daniel is the son of Shane and Michele Hemphill. For two years, Daniel participated in NHS and Choir, while running on the Cross-Country team for three years, along with four years in FFA and Track. Daniel was also a memeber of the local 4-H club, and a member of the County Coucil. After graduation, Daniel plans to attend a Iowa State University to study Agriculture Business. When we asked Daniel which staff member has had the greatest impact on him during his high shool tenure he said Mrs. Kristin Marshall. This is because "She always has a positive attitude. Even if she’s frustrated, she never shows it. She makes my least favorite subject a little more enjoyable." Daniel's advice to underclassmen is "Take notes and listen to teachers. Your senior classes are the most important for college." Congratulations and best wishes to Daniel on his graduation from WHS with the class of 2020 #WeAreWapello #WapelloTribePride #classof2020

Happy Earth day everyone! This week at the secondary we would have celebrated with hometown day. Even though we aren’t together on this day you can still reach out and help. I challenge you to practice your social distancing and reach out to help someone in your community in need. Maybe you have a neighbor that needs some raking done, or some planting to do. Can you help at a safe distance? #wearewapello #wapellotribepride

Reminder that all teacher have "office hours" set up and your child is strongly encouraged to attend these Zoom sessions. We realized this is not always possible, but if you can, we really would love to see the kids. This is PK-12, every week until the end of the "scheduled" school year. Please, email the teachers with questions. Be Safe! #WeAreWapello #WapelloTribePride
