Todays' first Senior Shoutout is to Kolby Bishop. Kolby is the son of Jerald and Nina Solomon. While in high school, Kolby has focused on his class work. Kolby is unsure as to what he will do after graduation at this time. We asked Kolby to name a teacher/staff member who had an impact on his life while in school. He named Mrs. Kristin Yotter because, "she helped me stay on task." When asked his advice for underclassmen, Kolby said "pay attention to [the] teacher." Our second Senior Shoutout for this Monday in May is to Katelyn Yeakey. Katelyn is the daughter of Krista Marlette and Michael Yeakey. While in high school Katelyn has been a member of the Student Council for two years, while also participating in NHS for three years, and Band and Drama for four. Katelyn's future plan is to attend Des Moines Area Community College to study in the Court Reporting program. We asked Katelyn to name a teacher/staff member who has had an impact on her life while in school. Katelyn named Mrs. Randi Moulton because, "she holds her students accountable. She treated me how I wanted to be treated, like an independent person capable of thought. She taught me to be unapologetic with who I am." When asked her advice for underclassmen, Katelyn said "There’s always sunshine after rain, no matter how long the storm is." The Wapello FFA has launched an online site for plant sales that have been raised in the FFA Greenhouse. Orders can be placed and paid for online and orders can be picked up curbside. From the WCSD Lunch Program: We are serving meals (breakfast and lunch) on Mondays and Wednesdays from.10-11! If you are new to picking up meals, please call the elementary kitchen to let us know how many children you want meals for.

May 1, 2020 Update Happy 1st day of May. At least, I think it's the first day of May. Anyone else having trouble with days blurring together? We have plans for Graduation and Prom. Graduation is scheduled for June 28 with a 7:00pm start at the football field. If we are not allowed to gather on June 28, the alternate date will be July 11 at 10:00am at the football field. Rain locations for both days will be the high school. If we are still locked down in July, we will figure out some type of virtual event to honor our seniors. Prom is scheduled for June 20. If we aren't able to gather by then, we will work to put together some type of dance event later in the summer, potentially after graduation. Our hope is that this information will allow families to at least start to plan. Be sure to check previous updates for schedules to come and pick up your child's personal belongings. We are not collecting textbooks or computers. This is just a time for you to pick up your things. Remember that Louisa County is not one of those counties that is "opening up" today. Therefore... Attention Seniors of 2020! We are getting rid of several of our rocks. We thought it would be cool to have you grab a rock from our yard, paint it at home, & Shaggy’s will use it for their new landscaping. I’ll leave paint markers near the rocks also, in case you just want to just sign your name on one, that’s fine too. Drop it off at Shaggy’s when we do the Cruise Night. We welcome in May with today's first Senior Shoutout. This goes out to Ada Chavarria. Ada is the daughter of Dora and Efrain Chavarria. During her high school tenure, Ada has been very involved in Soccer and Softball for one year. After graduation, Ada's future plans include going straight into the workforce. We've asked Ada to name a teacher/staff member who had an impact on her life while in school. She named Mrs. Aracely Schlesing for this because, "...she always gave the best advice and helped through any problems I had, with school or outside of school." When asked her advice for underclassmen, Ada said "Cherish every moment." Our second Senior Shoutout on this first day of May goes out to Daniel Meeker. Daniel is the son of Doug Meeker and Shelly Waste. Daniel has been very active during high school, participating in Cross-Country for one year, Choir for two, Football for three and Wrestling for four (4 time state qualifier). Daniel's future plans include attending Loras College to study Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, while competing with the wrestling team. When we asked Daniel which staff member has had the greatest impact on him during high shool he said Mr. Todd (Coach) Parsons. This is because "He always pushed me to get better every day and always said "on good teams- Coaches keep players accountable, But on great teams- Players keep Players Accountable." Daniel's advice to underclassmen is "Get good grades and be a good student or student athlete. But never forget to have a little fun in high school." Schedule for Picking Up Student Belongings at the high school: Students can start picking up their belongings starting on Monday, May 4th. All materials from student lockers and gym lockers have been placed in individual bags. The bags have been placed in the new practice gym for pickup. High school students please come to the south door of the practice gym when retrieving your materials and middle school students please come to the north door of the practice gym. You can pull up curbside, tell us what bags you are picking up, and we will have volunteers retrieve your bags for you. Parents if you are coming to the elementary to pick up materials and the time does not coincide with times at the high school please feel free to stop by the high school and pick up your child’s belongings. We want to make this process as convenient as possible. Unfortunately we had a number of items left on the locker room floors that we cannot connect to an owner. We have created a “lost & found” table for these items. When you get home and notice that you may be missing a pair of shoes, gym shorts, t-shirt, etc.. please call the school and you can come in and look through the “lost and found” tables. Adam has spent many hours of his high school career working in nursing homes, and has been a Certified Nursing Assistant for a year now. After graduation, Adam plans to attend Southeastern Community College to study in the Nursing program, then obtain his BSN from the University of Iowa. We asked Adam to name a teacher/staff member who had an impact on his life while in school. He named Mrs. Diana Mairet because, "[she] has pushed me to work hard at my studies. She has taught me to never give up even if I am struggling. She has always been available if I had any questions." When asked his advice for underclassmen, Adam said "Find what you love to do and build and grow off that. Don’t be afraid to take new opportunities." Our second Senior Shoutout for Thursday is to Lily Williams. Lily is the daughter of Johnnie Williams and Sheri Crawford. While in high school Lily has been a member of the NHS for two years, and participated in Speech for one. Lily's future plan is to take a gap year as "I wait to see where God leads me". We asked Lily to name a teacher/staff member who had an impact on her life while in school. Lily said this was Ms. Jane Bostian because, "[she] isn't just a teacher. She's a friend. She's willing to always listen, and she dishes out advice when needed. Ms. Bostian also goes out of her way to help others even when it doesn't benefit her. She's helped me with an abundant amount of papers and speeches over the years (and she's helped others who aren't even in her class). She's been there for me since sophomore year, and she's the type of teacher who just doesn't give up on her students. She's never given up on me, and I'm thankful for her." When asked her advice for underclassmen, Lily said "Live for Jesus Christ and Him alone because He's the way, the truth, and the life." April 29, 2020: No new school information was released today, which is OK. These days, no news is good news. The school food pantries will be open again this week. The Elementary pantry is open from 2:30-4:30. The HS pantry is open from 3:30-5:30. High school students, Zoom is a wonderful thing. You should really take advantage of it, and your teachers are giving you amazing opportunities to do so. You should really check it out! Hint...Hint... No goofy language today, folks.
