2021 Senior Spotlight: Today's final May 4th Senior Spotlight is to Landon Ray Trafton. He is the son of Robin Trafton. While in high school, Landon has participated in Football for one year, Basketball for two years, and has been a member of the FFA for four years. He's also will have participated in Baseball for five years at the conclusion of this season. Landon's plans after graduation are to attend SCC to study to become an automotive and diesel technician. Landon has listed several people who have influenced him while at Wapello; Mr. Bohlen, Mr. Dunham, and Mr. & Mrs. Brown. "They all supported me and help me through school." His advice to underclassmen is "Try your best and don’t wait [until the] last minute and always ask questions." Good luck to Landon and the class of 2021 on their upcoming graduation!

2021 Senior Spotlight: Our second Senior Spotlight of today is Charli Shafer. She is the daughter of Debbie Shafer. While at Wapello, Charli has participated in Golf for one year, and Band for two years. After graduation she plans to work and make the best of life, and will attend SCC in the fall. The teacher who has had the greatest influence in Charli's life is Mrs. Moulton. "If I felt like I needed to talk to a teacher about anything it was her. I always felt welcomed in her class room. She’s genuinely a nice person and super understanding with every student there." As for advice to underclassmen, Charli says "Don’t have that many missing assignments, try to turn everything in on time. I procrastinated a lot and always stressed about getting them turned in. It will make your years in high school less stressful and more fun." Congratulations to Charli on her upcoming graduation!!

2021 Senior Spotlight: Today's Senior Spotlights kick off with Griffin Bruce Mears. He is the son of Ed and Cyndi Mears. While attending Wapello, Griffin has been active in Soccer and Baseball for one year, and Football, Basketball and Track for four years. He is also a member of the Wapello FCA Chapter and Nexus for three years. After graduation, Griffin plans to attend Moody Bible Institute in Chicago in the fall pursue a masters in Pastoral Studies to one day be a Pastor. The staff member who has made the greatest impact on Griffin is Mrs. Mairet because "She can always be real with us and wants what’s best for each and every one of her students. She understands that high schoolers have a lot on their plate most the time. However she uses that to teach us that life is busy and she wants to help us be prepared for our future." Griffin's advice to underclassmen is "be patient with your classmates and teachers and don’t take stuff people say to you personally just laugh and smile life is about Love." Best of luck to Griffin on his impending graduation!!!

Congratulations to the Wapello FFA Soils Team on being named the 2021 Iowa Soils CDE STATE CHAMPIONS! The contest was held last Friday at Iowa State University, Wapello was the first place team in a field of 30 teams that competed. Emma Schoonover was the high individual out of 116 individuals that competed. Help us to congratulate the Wapello FFA Soils Team on their Championship, and the privilege of representing Iowa at the National Contest later this year. #WeAreWapello #WapelloTribePride

2021 Senior Spotlight: Our final Senior on this first Monday in May is Erin Marie Hemphill. She is the daughter of Michele and Shane Hemphill. Erin has been extremely involved during her time at Wapello, including; Choir and Student Council for one years, Wrestling Cheerleader, Softball and FCCLA for three years, and four years in FFA, County Council, Volleyball, Track and Soccer. Upon graduating from Wapello, she plan attend Iowa Lakes to play volleyball, then transfer to Iowa State University to major in Ag Business. The teacher or staff member who has made the greatest impact on Erin is former WHS teacher Mrs. Wolfe. This is because "Danielle not only helped me in the classroom but also in FFA and in volleyball. She helped me get all my work done and kept me focused on my end goals. Danielle wanted the best for me, and helped me towards my success." Erin's advice to underclassmen is "high school goes by fast, so don’t wish it away. Stay focused, but make as many memories as you can." Congratulations and best wishes to Erin on her impending graduation.

2021 Senior Spotlight: Today's second Senior Spotlight is Tess Lee Loyd. She is the daughter of Sonya Beeding and Joe Loyd. During her tenure at Wapello she has been active in Band for two years, Choir for three, and Speech and Drama for four years. Tess's future plans are to pursue a Real Estate and Financial degree from the University of Northern Iowa. She says the teacher who has influenced her the most is Ms. Bostian. This is because "I always wanted to do plays and musicals. Having that opportunity available to me at Wapello made me extremely happy. Bostian also introduced me to many different shows and music, she also showed me the world of speech. Doing speech got me completely out of my comfort zone. I made many friends from different places at competitions as well." Her advice to underclassmen is "..don't get yourself overwhelmed. The only time I ever truly had trouble in school would be when I would get myself too overwhelmed and worked up. Try and talk to someone to help manage all your stress." Good luck Tess in your future after graduation.

2021 Senior Spotlight: Our first Senior Spotlight for May is Toni Renee Bohlen. She is the daughter of Steve and JoLynn Bohlen. While at Wapello, Toni has been active in many things, including; Art Club and Student Council for one year, Football Cheerleading and NHS for two years, three years in Volleyball and FCCLA, played Basketball all four years, and Softball for five years. After graduation, Toni plans to attend Wartburg College to study Business Administration or Education. Toni said Mrs. Marshall is the teacher who's had the biggest impact on her, because "...she is always pushing me to do my best. She is always willing to help me with whatever I am struggling with, no matter what it is. She has always been there for me." 2021 Senior Spotlight: Our Senior Spotlight for this last day of April is Gracie Kate Gustison. She is the daughter of Jessica and Corey Gustison. Gracie has been very involved while in high school, participating in NHS and FCCLA for two years, Football Cheerleading for three, and Volleyball, Track and Student Council for four years. She was also a member of the PBIS Committee and was a Boys Basketball manager while at Wapello. After graduation, Gracie plans to attend Southeastern Community College to study Nursing. She says the teacher who most impacted her is Mrs. Marshall because "...she is always smiling and happiness is the most important aspect in life." When asked about advice for underclassmen, Gracie suggests "Always give[ing] your best effort and respect your teachers." Congratulations and best wishes to Gracie on her impending graduation!

2021 Senior Spotlight: Our final Senior Spotlight to close out April is Samantha Lynn Ewart. She is the daughter of Angela and Dave Ewart. While in high school, Sammy has been active in Track and NHS for two years, Football Cheerleading for three, and FCA and Basketball for four. This summer will be here fifth season on the high school Softball team. Sammy's future plans include attending the University of Iowa to major in Nursing, with the goal of becoming a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner. She sites Mr. Brown as the teacher most influential in her life because "He taught me how to cope with my anxiousness, to not overthink, and to just have fun. Not only did Brown teach me how to become a better athlete, but he also taught me a lot about life." Sammy's advice to underclassmen is "do NOT procrastinate. It'll hurt in the long run."
