Today's Senior Shoutout goes to Leigha Weyrick. She is the daughter of Sydney and Fred Weyrick. While in high school Leigha has been active in Basketball, Soccer, and Band all four years. Leigha's plans after graduation are still to be determined. We asked Leigha to name a teacher/staff member who has had an impact on her life. She named Mr. Brandon Brown for this because, "He is a great basketball coach! I appreciate how he wants to build the Wapello girls basketball program into a winning tradition and how he made us feel like a family - including the team meals. Thank you for letting me be a part of the team. I am looking forward to watching where he takes the program in the future." When asked her advice for underclassmen, Leigha said "Always give your all and go to all summer practices - that is where you become great! Believe in yourself. You are coming from a great place. Go to open gym in the summer. Cheer for your teammates on your teams." Congratulations and best wishes to Leigha on her graduation from WHS with the class of 2020. #WeAreWapello #WapelloTribePride #classof2020

Midweek brings another Senior Shoutout. Today's first one is for Emerald Elton. Emerald is the daughter of Georgia and Alen Elton. Emerald worked hard in school and was able to graduate early this year. Her future include attending Southeastern Community College, then transfer to a four year college to purse a degree related to the environment. We asked Emerald to name a teacher/staff member who has had an impact on her life. She named Ms. Rena Philp for this because, "[with] her being the school counselor, she was always there to talk to me when I needed it. I knew I could count on her to give me good advice." When asked her advice for underclassmen, Emerald said "Enjoy the rest of each individual school day while you can, before you’re never a teen again." Congratulations and best wishes to Emerald on her graduation from WHS with the class of 2020. #WeAreWapello #WapelloTribePride #classof2020

It's extremely rare that you see one of the Poole twins without the other. So today's second Senior Shoutout goes to Jacinda Poole. She is the daughter of Jennifer and Byron Poole. Jacey also spent her high school career focusing on her studies, and is also employed at J&S Tube. In fact, her job maybe how she's decided what her future plans will hold; which is to attend Southeastern Community College to study Precision Machining. We asked Jacey to name a teacher/staff member who has had an impact on her life. She named Mr. Bill Duhnam for this because, "He helped me find what I want to do." When asked her advice for underclassmen, Jacey said "Take it one step at a time even if it gets tough." Congratulations and best wishes to Jacey on her graduation from WHS with the class of 2020. #WeAreWapello #WapelloTribePride #classof2020

While Jarin focused on his studies through high school, he had been working at J&S Tube prior to the COVID-19 shutdown. After graduation, Jarin plans to attend a two year program to study cybersecurity and networking. We asked Jarin to name a teacher/staff member who has made an impact on his life while in school. He named Mr. Jason Marshall because, "[he] helped me get through my years of school." When we asked Jarin his advice to the underclassmen of WHS, his answer, "If I can make it, you can make it." Monday's second Senior Shoutout is for Logan Steahr. Logan is the son of Jolene Stanford and Michael Steahr. During high school, Logan spent his time focusing on his school work. After graduation, Logan plans to attend Southeastern Community College to study in the welding program. We asked Logan to name a teacher/staff member who has made an impact on his life while in school. He named Ms. Jane Bostian because, "She was always incredibly kind to everyone, and just lax enough for her classes to be fun whenever I was in them. She has always seemed like a teacher first and foremost, and a friend second. (Plus when I got left behind on the London subway in 2017 she insisted on holding my hand the rest of the time we rode them, lol)." When we asked Logan his advice to the underclassmen of WHS, he said, "You might feel like school is taking forever and you cant wait to be out, but I promise that when the time comes, you will miss having a set in stone schedule. Make the most of it while you can." Congratulations and best wishes to Logan on his graduation from WHS with the class of 2020! #WeAreWapello #WapelloTribePride #Class of 2020

On a normal year, this would be the week leading up to Graduation. As we continue to celebrate this class of 2020, we'll start with today's first Senior Shoutout. It goes out to Dakota Woodsmall. Dakota is the daughter of Roger and Marla Woodsmall. She just recently transferred to Wapello, but has participated in Cross-Country and Track for one year during high school. Dakota's future plan is to begin working after graduation. Because the time Dakota spent at Wapello was cut short, instead of asking her advice, we'd like offer some for her, "Dakota, continue to encourage yourself, believe in yourself and always love yourself! If you do those things your future will be bright." (Ms. Rena Philp). The staff of WHS want to wish Dakota best wishes and Congratulations as she graduates with the class of 2020. #WeAreWapello #WapelloTribePride #classof2020

Our second Senior Shoutout for today goes out to Max Hardin. Max is the son of Josh and Beth Hardin. For two years, Max played on the Indian football team. After graduation, Max plans to attend a trade school for electrical engineering. When we asked Max which staff member has had the greatest impact on him during his high shool tenure he said Mr. Bohlen (the boss man himself). This is because "He was always there for me and was always there to tell me when I was being stupid." Max's advice to underclassmen is "Don’t get on top of the school, it’s not worth it." (Seems like good advice!). Congratulations and best wishes to Max on his graduation from WHS with the class of 2020 #WeAreWapello #WapelloTribePride #classof2020

While in high school Alex has been active in Golf for one year, Choir, Speech and Drama, NHS and Student Council for two years, and Band for three years. Alex's future include attending Southeastern Community College, then transfer to a four year college. We asked Alex to name a teacher/staff member who has had an impact on her life. She named Ms. Jane Bostian for this because, "[she] has been one of my biggest supporters through out my high school career. She had been with me through thick and thin. There was never a day where I couldn't go into her classroom and expresses myself and my feelings. Ms. Bostian never made me feel like I was less, and saw talent in me that I didn't even know where there. She has always supported me in everything I have done, and was there as a shoulder to cry on when things didn't work out. Ms. Jane Bostian was not only one of my teachers but also a role model for me. She has given me confidence in myself and strength to continue being myself. I could never thank her enough for all she has done for me." When asked her advice for underclassmen, Alex said "Treat people with kindness, including yourself."
