10 Days! Just ten days until the Voted Physical Plant and Equipment Levy Renewal Election that will be held on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at the Briggs Civic Center in Wapello. The polls for this very important election will be open from 7:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Did you know that Voted PPEL Funds can be used for our 1:1 computer initiative? When we are purchasing devices in bulk, we can apply Voted PPEL Funds to pay for the machines, the Google Licenses, and the device bags that are issued with each and every Chromebook? We are proud to provide all of our 6-12 students with devices that they can carry with them to each class, and also take home to complete assignments and projects. Our younger students have access to devices in the classroom, the only difference is that the devices stay in the building and do not travel home with students. For our youngest students, we have tablets that are utilized for learning in the classroom. Our 1:1 program is another tool in the tool box that educators are using to help shape our students to become productive learners in an ever changing society.
That is today's Voted PPEL Fact, so now you know!

11 Days! Just eleven days until the Voted Physical Plant and Equipment Levy Renewal Election that will be held on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at the Briggs Civic Center in Wapello. The polls for this very important election will be open from 7:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Did you know that in the past, the Voted PPEL funds have been used to replace playground equipment at Wapello Elementary? While student fundraising has been the funding stream to replace aging and unsafe playground equipment at Wapello Elementary, the Voted PPEL funding stream can and has been used in the past to help pay for replacement equipment and its installation. Over time, the equipment on the playground must be replaced due to breakdown of the equipment, or it being deemed unsafe.
Playground equipment is not cheap, and it takes lots and lots of planning to make a major expenditure such as a piece of playground equipment. While student led fundraising is the main source of capital when replacing equipment, there are times that not all of the money has been raised to replace a piece of equipment that is in need of replacement, this is where the Voted PPEL can step in and assist in the replacement of playground equipment, it is an allowable expenditure under the Voted PPEL. Without the Voted PPEL Levy in place, these expenditures, like others that we have highlighted would have to come from the district’s general fund, which would most likely mean a reduction in staff or student-centered programs.
That is today's Voted PPEL Fact, so now you know!

12 Days! Just twelve days until the Voted Physical Plant and Equipment Levy Renewal Election that will be held on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at the Briggs Civic Center in Wapello. The polls for this very important election will be open from 7:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Did you know that in the past, the Voted PPEL funds have been used to replace floor coverings in our attendance centers? At one point in time, Wapello Elementary had carpet in all classrooms throughout the building. Over time, it was found that the carpet was not the best choice for our classrooms due to many factors. The board decided to remove the carpet in a few classrooms each year and lay new floor tile. The tile has a longer life expectancy and can be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected daily, proving to be a better solution over the previously installed carpet. The replacement of the carpet with floor tile was an allowable expenditure using the Voted PPEL funding stream. Without the Voted PPEL Levy in place, these expenditures, like others that we have highlighted would have to come from the district’s general fund, which would most likely mean a reduction in staff or student-centered programs.
