Today, for our Staff Feature Friday, we spotlight our Director of Instruction, Mrs. Jaci Thornburg! Mrs. Thornburg also serves as the Cheer Coach for Football Cheerleading and is the WHS Pom Squad Coach.
Mrs. Thornburg's family includes her husband Roger, who is the 6-12 Principal at Mediapolis, her son Reese (19) who is a Sophmore at the University of Iowa, her son Regan (16) who is a Junior at Mediapolis, and her daughter Maycie (11) who is a 6th grader at Mediapolis. They also enjoy the company of their black Labrador Retriever, Cooper.
Mrs. Thornburg holds degrees from the University of Northern Iowa in Elementary Education, Spanish Teaching, and Teaching ESL. She earned a Master's Degree in Elementary Education, and she holds a second Master's Degree from Viterbo University in Educational Leadership. She is also a Wapello alumnus! Mrs. Thornburg has 25 years of teaching experience, and she has been at Wapello for the past 16 years
In her spare time, you will find Mrs. Thornburg traveling, watching Hawkeye Football, attending and supporting her kids in their athletic event, spending time with family, going to concerts, shopping, looking for treasures at antique shops and flea markets.
When asked what she likes best about working for the Wapello Community School District, she had this to say:
"The Kids!!
I love the family atmosphere and that relationships matter.
I love that kids come back years after graduation and visit the people that impacted them.
I love that our community supports our school!
It is home!"
